The Becoming

I don't talk about recovery like it's a chapter I closed and moved past. It's not behind me. It's underneath me. It's what taught me the difference between a hard thing and an impossible thing. (Spoiler: nothing is impossible)

For a lot of people, food and a roof over their head are the baseline, and the thought of losing that is terrifying. An often distant fear, but scary nonetheless. But when you've lived the scary thing, stared it in the face, slept next to it, and beaten it, most of life gets a lot less scary.

Change isn't a single moment for me. It's been years of small, unglamorous decisions to keep becoming someone I could respect. I'm not here to tell you I'm perfect or that nothing scares me. But knowing you can get through almost anything goes a long way.
